Super Falcons forward Uchechi Sunday scored five goals as Minsk thrashed Konak Belediyesi 10-1 in the preliminary round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League at the Stadion Otoka on Tuesday.
The powerful forward made her UCL debut in Sarajevo and it was a way of reminding her doubters that her league form wasn’t a fluke.
The ex-Rivers Angels forward scored five in a game for the first time in her professional career, helping Minsk start their UCL campaign on a good footing.
Minsk took control of the game with a resounding victory over the desperately poor Turkish outfit.
Jonas Pjatrauskas’ ladies won the game with a controlled display in what ended as a training session for the Belarus outfit.
The striker scored the five goals – one in the first half and four in the second and the cerebral quality of her play more than justified her unstoppable form.
From the outset, the tall imposing figure of Uchechi was the focal point of Minsk’s attacking play.
Whenever possible the ball was hoisted to the striker it caused Konak Belediyesi all kinds of problems.
Konak Belediyesi withstood Minsk until the 10th minute when tricky Esther Sunday put the Belarus Women Premier League leaders ahead.
Within the space of five minutes the scoreline was 2-0 and it was Liana Mirashnichenka who netted for Minsk.
However, it was only a matter of time before Uchechi started her own show and she duly obliged on 38 minutes with a brave finish.
The Turkish side were ruthlessly exposed by their opponents’ clever attacking play.
An own goal from Ipek Özgan further increased the woes of the clueless Konak Belediyesi in the 46th minute.
Uchechi quickly hit Minsk’s 5th and her second of the game.
With Minsk in the ascendancy, it was always going to be a damage limitation exercise for the Turkish representatives.
Yet they were helpless to prevent Minsk from scoring a 6th. On this occasion, it was Mirashnichenka with a brace for herself.
Uchechi then scored in the 58th and 71st minutes respectively.
With ten minutes left on the clock, substitute Ishola Tawa got her own share of the cake with her team’s 9th goal of the match.
With the game over as a contest, it was a case of which Minsk player could get their name on the score-sheet.
But it was left to Uchechi, who scored her 5th goal of the game.
There was still time for Ebru Topçu to net a face saving goal for Konak Belediyesi in the 88th minute.
The duo of Onome Ebi and Gift Otuwe were also in action for Minsk.
Minsk will continue their quest for glory with another fixture against SFK 2000 at the same venue on Thursday 13th August.
